In the recent announcement Microsoft mentioned that their cloud storage service Skydrive will be renamed to Onedrive very soon. This change is due to the Trademark infringement case filed by the British Sky Broadcasting Group (BSkyB) on the branding of Skydrive. Initially Microsoft though of fighting with the BSkyB about this trademark issue but later they have decided to change the name of their service Skydrive to Onedrive. For this Microsoft has registered the domain name Onedrive.com and they have also posted a promotional video about the new branding of Skydrive to Onedrive on Youtube.
Microsoft is explained their cloud storage service new OneDrive as the one place for Photos, documents, and other content that is readily connected across all of your personal devices. SkyDrive and SkyDrive Pro will be renamed to OneDrive and OneDrive for Business respectively.
The General Manager, Consumer Apps & Services, Ryan Gavin mentioned in a blog post that “Changing the name of a product as loved as SkyDrive wasn’t easy”. He says “We are excited about what is to come, and can’t wait to share more.” With this news we can’t figure out when the exact name change will happen but with the registration of Onedrive.com it is clear that Microsoft started working on the rebranding.
